One of the largest telescopes in the southeast and what’s happening with it now.

Abstract:

There are telescopes and then there are BIG telescopes!

Don discusses the adventure involved in acquiring and restoring this 29 inch mirror and telescope from Dixon Lomax.  For reference our telescope at the Roper Mountain Science Center is a 23 inch.

Speaker:

Don Brooks currently serves as President of the Cleveland County Astronomical Society, an organization he has been actively involved with since the mid-1990s. Over the years, he has played a key role in organizing numerous BoBfest events while it was held at Gardner-Webb University.

Mr. Brooks brings extensive hands-on experience in the construction of observatories and telescope piers, as well as in the maintenance and repair of telescopes. Among his many contributions to the field, the design and construction of the 29-inch telescope stands out as a particularly significant professional achievement.
