NOTE: This meeting will be in person at FURMAN UNIVERSITY, not at the Science Center. Location and Map are listed below:
Hold and examine 10 meteorites, including a 572 gm Odessa iron, and cut portions of four other irons, one stony, two pallasites and two Carbonaceous chondrites (Allende and Murchison). You will also hold and examine several fossils and terrestrial crystals. In addition, you will experience an easily reproduced scale model of the solar system on a scale that can be held and walked, giving a powerful feel for both the vast scale and the emptiness of space.
Rev. Bruce Booher is a retired Lutheran pastor with a strong interest in the role that mystery, awe and wonder play in faith, science and all of life. He has been an amateur astronomer since he was 13. He has spoken at conferences, led retreats, and spoken on awe and wonder at dozens of civic clubs, astronomy clubs, and congregations.

We will meet in the Planetarium in the Townes Science Center. Visitors can park in the South Chapel Lot, which is the parking lot between the Daniel Chapel and the football stadium (park closer to the chapel side – see attached map, follow the red arrow). The building is across the Mall from the parking lot. The classroom is on the second floor; there is stair and elevator access near the classroom.
